The Association has a
dedicated fire library housed in the fire information resource centre.
The centre is dedicated to providing practical, usable data and the
wealth of fire related documents include:
- Reference books and resources on fire research, fire training,
prevention and suppression.
- International and local Fire Journals.
- An extensive collection of more than 27 000 indexed journal
articles.
- A pamphlet collection with information and tips on a variety of
fire and safety issues.
- Fire reports and information on fires of high technical or
educational content.
- A large selection of fire related newspaper clippings.
- National and International Code of practices and standards.
- Relevant legislation.
- Conference and seminar reports.
- Product and buyers guides for fire and related products.
- Statistical fire reports from local Fire Brigades and Emergency
Services.
Information can be obtained from the centre in person or by postal,
telephonic, faxed or electronic enquiry.
The Information Resource Centre handles in excess of 580
technical enquiries annually, ranging from:
- Buyers guide enquiries.
- FPASA general information.
- National fire loss statistics.
- Fire reports.
- Fire protection, fire safety and storage recommendations.
- Material safety data sheets for hazardous materials and chemicals.
- Legislation, codes and standards pertaining to building
regulations, fire safety and fire-fighting equipment and systems.
Enquiries are handled professionally. Information not available in
South Africa is sourced internationally or clients are referred to
subject specialists.
FPASA Fire Information Resource Centre library
catalogue on the Internet
The library's catalogue is live and searchable on the FPASA
website. This is a unique service to corporate members.
- Corporate members are issued with a user name and password that
allows access to the online bibliographic catalogue, 24 hours per day.
- Browse for the information needed and e-mail requests for articles
to the fire information centre. Information will be dispatched on the
next working day.
