Our Advanced Fire Prevention course is essential as a follow-up to the Fire Risk Assessment and Prevention Strategies course. 

This advanced module provides a holistic approach to fire prevention to enhance skill sets in this area, which is a must for Fire Safety Officers, or anyone charged with making a building a safer workplace from a fire safety perspective (e.g. corporate risk managers, etc).

We're looking for an exceptional candidate to fill this position in an exciting dynamic fire focused company.

General duties:

  • Able to execute fire risk assessments to local and international standards.
  • Familiarity with local (SABS) and international codes/ best practice (e.g. NFPA, BSi, FM Global, etc.)
  • Execute fire investigations according to NFPA 921.
  • Execute training in the classroom on the bouquet of courses the Association offers.
  • Advanced fire prevention skills.
  • Comprehends the fundamentals of fire safety engineering, and fire risk engineering.

Should any person die as a result of ineffective means of escape or insufficient fire extinguishing equipment on your premises, you (as a building owner) may be found criminally negligent and ordered to carry out jail time.

Though there is no tertiary qualification enabling the youth or experienced professionals in South Africa the opportunity to study this field via a typical 4-year degree program, the University of Stellenbosch's engineering department has launched an innovative and much-needed academic program, in an attempt to remedy this situation. Those studying in the field/s of civil or mechanical engineering, upon completion of their 4-year undergraduate degrees, may proceed to a Master's program specifically focussing on fire engineering in the South African context. Further, Dr. Richard Walls of the University of Stellenbosch has been involved in developing multiple short courses, which if attended, will greatly enhance the qualification/ competency of "fire engineers" in South Africa.

Pumps for sprinkler systems are an essential component of the water suppression system, which must be inspected weekly (non-negotiable).
